#YouKnowYourePolyWhen you answer “how come you never married?” with “because 2 of my boyfriends are already legally married, and the other boyfriend’s finances are a mess so I don’t want to get dragged into that. But I might marry one of my boyfriend’s other girlfriends for the medial benefits she gets at work if we move to a state with domestic partnership laws.”

Day 7 – Do you want to get married and/or have kids?
1. Yes, but when I can afford it and have become financially stable enough. It’ll be a decade at least from now. Money aside, I don’t know what my motives are for this. Maybe I’ve just always been taught that marriage is what you do? Eh. I think it’s a stability thing. Takes a lot for me to not worry about being alone.
2. Not at the moment. Having kids is a decision that you change your mind on, but mine has been a pretty stable ‘no’ so far. I figure that I’m flexible with this and thinking about my present situation, no the future. I will want them when I have a fuckload of money and feel confident in myself enough to not fuck them up. Yeah, good luck with that, Nik…
Is it sad that both answers are down to my mental health and financial situation? Maybe, but they’re both big asks for the bank account.
People should be able to marry whomever they want. Marriage is no longer the cornerstone of society (PFFT! RIGHT!) nor is it to many people I know a religious ceremony or announcement to whatever god/body/thing that you believe in that you’ll have some darling little offspring and wash some dude’s dishes for the rest of his life. It’s just not like that any more.
Gay love is awesome, just like straight love. It’s a beautiful thing and it deserves to be cherished and celebrated just like “the rest of us” get to do. Everyone deserves love and the ability to share an announcement of that love with others.
